What better way is there to celebrate a Birthday than a line dance or two? A simple cowboy hustle involves an in out, in out, heel toe, heel toe with the right foot, then a step kick, step touch again with the right foot, followed by a step to the right, left foot behind, a step to the right, left foot to touch, and ending with a step to the left, right behind, another step to the left and a turn. Not so simple until you have a Tessa and an Andrea guiding you through the steps, with Tessa at the front and Andrea at the rear for when we turned around.
So, it was our 104th Birthday (a little older than Fairwarp Village Hall) and we like to celebrate in style – country and western style! Our evening began with a superb Heather Dewhurst chilli, served with rice, guacamole, grated cheese, sour cream, and nachos – our thanks to Heather and to Tracy Atchison and Kathleen Davenport, which was followed by apple strudel topped with as much custard as one could wish for, or cream for those custard haters (who can possibly hate custard?).
Then it was on to the dancing: this started well with Tessa Heath from Ashdown Line Dancing teaching us seven dances in total – gradually getting more complicated as they progressed. So much fun, with lots of laughs and a few collisions when heading the wrong way. One really needed to know one’s left from one’s right! And the following morning? – perhaps there were a few stiff limbs and the odd sore foot, but what a small price to pay for such a great evening.
