Christ Church has an active and dedicated Flower Guild with about 15 members. The aim of the Guild is to provide fresh flowers every Sunday in the church throughout the year, though not usually in the reflective seasons of Advent and Lent. We also do flowers for weddings upon request and for which we charge.
We have a very successful rota (two members each week) which is issued at six monthly intervals which means that the commitment is not too great. From time to time, we hold a flower festival – the most recent being in June 2015 to commemorate the 800th anniversary of the signing of Magna Carta . Over that weekend we also arranged a concert with a barbecue. It was all very successful and raised a considerable sum for the church.
We are an eclectic group of ladies (though we have had male flower guild members in the past) few of whom are church goers, but we all have a love of flowers and a commitment to supporting the parish church of Fairwarp. Although some have considerable artistic talent, most of us are amateurs who just enjoy growing and using the results for the pleasure of others. However, for major festivals in the church year, such as Christmas and Easter, we can really pull out all the stops and the church is filled with a wonderful array of flowers and foliage.
If you are interested in being part of our group, we would be delighted to hear from you! Please contact Janie Hooper on 01892 664471.
