Churchyard clear up

Many thanks go to all those villagers who joined the clear up on Saturday 20 October. Everyone worked very hard and made such a difference in such a short time with their strimming, hedge cutting, grass cutting, and weeding.

The bacon butties supplied by the Foresters Arms were very welcome at the coffee break and gave the final push a boost.

Fairwarp Remembers

There are lots of things planned to commemorate the centenary of the end of the First World War. They will be taking place leading up to and including the weekend of 10 and 11 November. See our Fairwarp Remembers page for full details.

You will also see we have put large poppies around the village. East Sussex Highways have confirmed that we can add them to road signs so they will be marking the event on the B2026 as well.

Charity Walk a great success

Vicky Humber would like to thank everyone who joined her walk for charity in aid of NET Patient Foundation.

The tea, coffee, cake and sausage rolls that awaited the walkers’ return went down very well!

The event has raised £379.60.

WW1 War Memorials

WW1 war memorial in the church

As part of the Fairwarp Remembers initiative, the WW1 Committee have been arranging to renovate and improve the war memorials to The Great War both in the churchyard and inside the church.

The inside memorial has been renovated, cleaned and the gold paint updated. This lists all the men of Fairwarp who fought in World War One.

WW1 War Memorial in the churchyard

The war memorial in the churchyard commemorates the fallen with 25 names of the Fairwarp soldiers engraved on it. As part of the renovations, new steps have been erected leading up to it and new railings will be going in during the week beginning 29 October 2018.

Church dossal goes to the Royal School of Needlework

Missing dossal

If you have been into the church recently you will have noticed the the dossal (the ornamental cloth hung behind the alter) is missing. It has been sent to the Royal School of Needlework to be repaired and cleaned.

It had been hanging directly against the wall which is a little damp and when it is returned it will be re-hung so that it hangs slightly away from the wall. While it is away the wall will be decorated and there are plans to do something special for the WW1 centenary commemorations.
